Prime Minister Andy Burnham will visit the United States next week for the first time during his premiership. He will attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York City. Mr Burnham is due to address fellow world leaders in the afternoon of 22 September. The PM will also meet US president Donald Trump for the first time, with talks likely to focus on the Ukraine and Middle East conflicts.

The Liberal Democrats hold their annual conference in Brighton from 19 September. Treasury spokesperson Daisy Cooper will deliver her speech on 20 September when the Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey will hold his Q&A session with the delegates. He will also close the event with his major speech on 22 September.

Tickets will go on sale next week for a 38-date Oasis summer 2027 tour across the UK, Ireland, Europe, and the US. To have a chance to buy tickets, fans needed to complete the ticket registration process. Successful registrants will then receive a unique access code and private link via email between 24 and 27 September. Receiving a code does not guarantee a ticket, as demand is expected to exceed stadium capacity. To prevent website crashes the sales will be staggered over three days, from 25 – 27 September.

The United Nations General Assembly high-level debate opens in New York on 22 September. The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, will deliver the first address, followed by Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and US President Donald Trump. Leaders from around the world, including conflict zones in the Middle East, the Strait of Hormuz, Ukraine and Russia will speak throughout the week.

Later, Donald Trump is due to meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping at the White House on the 24 September, where talks are expected to include trade, the war in Ukraine, Gaza, artificial intelligence and US defence production. Xi will reportedly be travelling with a large business delegation, while Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is set to attend Mr Trump’s state dinner for President Xi.

Pope Leo will visit France from 25 – 28 September. He will be welcomed by President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee palace and greet the public from the Popemobile. At the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes, Pope Leo will lead a mass, meet sick people, and lead prayers during a candlelight procession. He will close his visit with mass at Saint-Etienne Cathedral in Metz.

The Queen’s Reading Room Festival takes place at Chatsworth, Derbyshire from 19 – 20 September. Among those taking part in the literary festival are Clare Balding, Harlan Coben, Lee Child, Cecelia Ahern, Meg Mason, Elif Shafak, Philippa Perry, Louise Penny, Jeffrey Archer and Kate Atkinson.

Gillian Anderson and Billy Crudup open in Edward Albee’s “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” at @sohoplace, London on 21 September. The production, set in the round and directed by Marianne Elliott, is currently booking until 19 December 2026.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson stars as Truman Capote in Jay Presson Allen’s “Tru” at the Menier Chocolate Factory, London which opens on 19 September. The play, directed by Rob Ashford, is currently booking until 14 November 2026.
