The energy regulator Ofgem will announce its next quarterly price cap by 27 May. Energy bills for households in Great Britain could increase by more than £200 a year to almost £1,900 from this summer, according to analysis by the energy consultancy Cornwall Insight.
The former SNP chief executive and estranged husband of Nicola Sturgeon, Peter Murrell, is expected to appear in court in Edinburgh on Monday 25 May. He is facing a charge of embezzling £459,000 over a period of more than 12 years. He is accused of illicitly purchasing items including luxury goods, jewellery, cosmetics, two cars, and a motorhome.
A twice postponed trial of the former DUP leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson and his wife, Lady Donaldson will begin on 26 May. They are accused of historical sex offences. The couple deny a combined 23 charges. Earlier this week, Lady Donaldson was ruled unfit to stand trial and is now set to face a trial of the facts – a process that tests the evidence in the case, but cannot result in a criminal conviction. The trials will proceed simultaneously.

A parliamentary election will be held in Cyprus on 24 May. A record number of 753 candidates from 15 parties have registered for the 56 seats in the House of Representatives, in a poll which could form one of the most fragmented legislatures in the island’s history, and weaken the influence of the parties supporting incumbent President Nikos Christodoulides.
The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) holds its annual Asia Security Summit, known as the Shangri-La Dialogue, in Singapore from 29 – 31 May. Described as ‘Asia’s premier defence summit’, ministers, diplomats and armed forces personnel will debate the region’s most pressing security challenges. Vietnamese President Tô Lâm will deliver the keynote address.

La Voix stars as ‘Miss Hannigan’ in the UK tour of “Annie” which opens at the New Wimbledon Theatre, London on 23 May. The role will be taken over by Claire Sweeney at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff on 7 July until the tour closes at the Curve Theatre, Leicester on 14 March 2027.
The Maddison Invitational golf tournament takes place at the Centurion Club, Hemel Hempstead on 26 May.
